The sun was shining on Sunday 8 June, for 107 cyclists who pedaled around the leafy Hertfordshire countryside for North London Hospice’s annual ‘On Yer Bike’ challenge. Participants set off from Queenswood School in Hatfield and completed either a 20 or40 mile circular course.
Community Fundraiser Tracy Annunziato said: “It was great to see so many people taking part in the event and raising money for the Hospice. It’s a huge challenge for us to raise the income that we need to run the Hospice and I would like to thank all those that took part in this event and to all our volunteers who encouraged participants on route and helped to keep them safe.” Theresa Villiers MP for Chipping Barnet also took part in the bike ride, cycling 40 miles Theresa said: “I was delighted to support the North London Hospice annual sponsored cycle ride. It was tough completing the 40 mile distance, particularly the last stretch uphill, but I made it all the way round. “North London Hospice does brilliant work and I am very grateful to all the friends and family who sponsored me. I would encourage people to take part in the cycle ride next year. The event is great fun and there’s a shorter 20 mile ride for those who don’t feel able to tackle 40 miles.” Judith Susser who has raised over £1,481.00 said: “I’ve taken part in On yer Bike a number of times before. This year I took part in the bike ride with my friend Ben, we were so lucky with the weather and we both love doing it and supporting sucha worthy cause.” North London Hospice cares for people living with a life limiting or terminal illness and supports their families from across Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. It provides inpatient care, day care, a hospice at home service as well as bereavement support. The Hospice needs to raise £7 million this year in order to run and develop its services. All the care the Hospice provides to its patients and their families is free.
