Dancing queens and their partners danced the night away on Saturday 7 February, at the artsdepot in North Finchely all in aid of North London Hospice. Dressed to impressed the dancing hopefuls danced their hearts out an auditorium of over 300 people. From a forties inspired jive to a sassy salsa the couples gave it their all to impress the judges. For seven weeks the competitors were put through their paces by professional instructors who taught them all they needed to know about their chosen style of dancing before the big finale. But at the end of the night it was contestants Sarah and Mark Overall who were crowned winners and won the judges over with their energetic 50’s jive. Praising the pair’s winning performance, special guest judge Chico Slimani said: “”It’s been a wonderful event to take part in, as real heart warming night. Forget fame, forget money, this is reality, from heart to heart, soul to soul.” Sarah said: “Taking part in strictly was one of the best experiences, we learnt a new skill, met fabulous people, especially Claire our dance teacher and raised so much money for North London Hospice. Am so proud of the glitterball I refuse to be parted with it!” As well as mastering their moves, each dancing couple was tasked with raising at least £400 for the hospice which supports people with life-limiting illnesses. The evening, sponsored by the Times Series and Enfield Independent, helped raise funds for North London Hospice. Thanking the competitors and dance instructors for helping make the event such a success Charlotte Matthews, events coordinator for NLH, said: “They have given so much of their time for free to make this fundraising event possible and I’m glad they’ve enjoyed the experience. “I am extremely proud of all our dancers – I have seen all of their confidence grow and thank them for the dedication they have shown to raising much needed funds for North London Hospice. “All money raised from this event will go directly to funding the specialist care we provide.” North London Hospice would like to say a special thank you to everyone who made this event possible.
