Dr Chris Baxter retires in September after 28 years with North London Hospice. He will mark this year in a special way when he embarks on a five-day trek in the Himalayas next month to raise funds for the Hospice.

Joining him for the 52km hike – which starts on 17 May – through the foothills of the Indian mountain range, will be fellow directors Fran Deane and Robin Langrishe.

The three have been in training for several months in snow, heat and torrential rain to ensure their fitness levels are good but there will be many challenges to overcome besides the tiredness and sore feet!

The Dalai Lama Himalayan Trek will see the group climb to an altitude of 3550 metres – that’s higher than the combined height of the UK’s three highest peaks – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon.

Chris, Fran and Robin are funding the trip themselves so every penny raised will go directly to the care of our patients.
