The family of a young mother who died of brain cancer has given thanks to the hospice that cared for her with a £17,500 donation. Former Blue band member Antony Costa joined family members at the North London Hospice on Saturday to present the cheque to the nurses and doctors that looked after Helen during her final days. Helen, 33, of Golders Green, died at the Finchley hospice after her battle with brain cancer in March this year. Joining Antony were members of Helen’s family including her mum Dora Theodorou, Helen’s brother, sister and Helen’s six-year-old son Jonathan. In 2012 Helen was diagnosed with brain cancer. Since that diagnosis Helen’s family, friends and the local community rallied round her offering their help and support in any way possible. A fundraising appeal called Heroes for Helen was set up with the hope of sending Helen to the US for potential lifesaving treatment. Blown away with the care and support that Helen and her family received at North London Hospice, her family decided to give some of the money raised via Heroes for Helen to those that cared for Helen during her final days at North London Hospice. Dora Theodorou, Helen’s mother said: “We as a family are proud to be donating this money to help North London Hospice. North London Hospice were amazing when they looked after our Helen so we are glad that we are able to give back via Heroes For Helen, so the hospice can continue to deliver the care to a high standard looking after and supporting many more  families.” Hospice director of fundraising Robin Langrishe said: “On behalf of North London Hospice, I would like to thank Helen’s friends and family for donating this large sum of money to the Hospice. It costs North London Hospice more than £7million each year to provide specialist care to our patients and their loved ones. We really depend on the support of our local community to enable us to continue the vital work we do, caring for patients with a life limiting illness and supporting their family and friends. ”
