George Sanders had always wanted to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. In February this year George achieved his dream, by climbing the 5,895 meter summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, in memory of his mother who was cared for, during her last few days at North London Hospice.

George said:” My mother passed on June 24th 2011 from ovarian cancer. She was moved from Barnet General and spent her last week at the Hospice in Woodside Park where the staff were amazing and made a real difference to the quality of her final few days of life.

“I have also battled in the past with my own health issues, so for me this challenge was a real big feat on a personal level too.”

George completely self funded the trip to Kilimanjaro and managed to raise a total of over £3,000 for North London Hospice. Most of the funds came from the support of his friends and family. George said: “Having social media as a tool was really helpful it has enabled me to reconnect with people from my past, especially with school friends I had lost touch with.”

“I just want to thank everyone that has sponsored me and supported me during this challenge, it really means a lot to me.”
