North London Hospice has become a regional centre for end-of-life training for care homes. The hospice will support providers such as GPs and care homes through the Gold Standard Framework (GSF) in Care Homes Programme, helping local people receive high quality care in the last months of their lives. The hospice was one of just three organisations to receive regional centre status, joining four existing centres across England. Kemi Koleoso, Practice Educator at North London Hospice, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the GSF regional centre status. This will enable us to share our specialist expertise and knowledge with other providers of end-of life-care thus extending our reach into the wider community. “The programme wil enable staff to deliver more personalised care, providing residents with a better quality of life consistent with their wishes. As a regional centre, North London Hospice will increase the number of care homes adopting the scheme and improve the quality of care provided across the south-east.” There are already a number of regional centres, including St Christopher’s Hospice in Sydenham, which has helped hundreds of care homes over the past five years. As well as giving frontline staff ther skills they need to offer more personalised care, the GSF Care Home programme aims to reduce hospitalisations and ensure the care homes have the structures in place to support residents and their families at end of life.
