A mother and daughter team are taking on a charity walk to help raise money for their local hospice. Jenny Kay, of North Finchley, and her daughter Jude Goldcrown-Kay, of West Hampstead, are getting ready to take part in North London Hospice’s Twilight Walk on Saturday 21 September. The duo decided to take on the challenge in appreciation of the ‘amazing’ care the Hospice gave to Jonathan Kay – Jenny’s husband and Jude’s father – during his illness in 2011. Jenny, a doctor in surgeries across Enfield and Barnet, said: “My mother was cared for at home by North London Hospice in 2007 and Jonathan received care both at home and also on the inpatient unit. “The Hospice is a fantastic place and everyone is so kind and caring. It made the world of difference that we could spend those last few days with Jonathan together as a family. This is our way of saying thank you.” Jude, who is a physiotherapist at Great Ormond Street, added: “North London Hospice allowed us to be a family when we needed to the most. I felt confident that my Dad was being cared for by compassionate and knowledgable staff who were always there when we needed their support. The Twilight walk is an opportunity to stand side by side and thank an amazing organisation as well as helping to ensure that more families are able to benefit from all that the Hospice offers.” So far they have raised more than £900 for the charity, which cares for people with a life-limiting illness, their families and friends. Hospice events fundraiser Gina McLaughlin said: “We need people like Jenny and Jude to sign up so we can continue caring for the communities of Enfield, Barnet and Haringey so please do think about taking part with us. The walk is a manageable distance and is something that so many people can enjoy.” The Twilight Walk will involve participants setting off from Finchley Rugby Club, in Summers Lane, and undertaking a seven-mile circular route. Walkers will head towards East Finchley, up East End Road, along Regent’s Park Road before passing North London Hospice, in Woodside Avenue, where there will be an opportunity to light a candle in celebration of someone special before returning to the rugby club. To sign up for the walk visit the Hospice’s website at www.northlondonhospice.org or call 020 8446 2288. Registration costs £20.
