Whether a patient or a visitor, whether you identify with a particular faith or not, coming to the Hospice can be a time when matters of a spiritual nature are especially important. There may be feelings that are hard to put into words, questions about meaning and purpose or more specific religious matters.
North London Hospice views spiritual care as a significant part of the service we offer to patients and families. We value and promote an ethos of respect for difference on all levels and we are proud of our identity as the UK's first purpose built, multi-faith hospice. This is reflected in our multi-faith chaplaincy team.
One member of the chaplaincy team visits the Hospice each day and is available to all patients regardless of their religious affiliation. The chaplains do not come as representatives of their own faith unless asked to do so. They come to listen and respond to any human or spiritual need or concerns a patient may have or wish to talk about.
These regular visits to the Hospice are made by Christian (Anglican, Roman Catholic and Free Church), Jewish (Orthodox and Liberal), Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist chaplains. Representatives of other faiths and denominations are available on request. For those of no faith, a Humanist chaplain is also available.
