Cooking at Miriam’s Table

Join us for an evening at Miriam’s Table with award winning cookbook author, Lilian Cordell. On 4th June at 6pm via Zoom, you will get to experience a cooking demonstration with Lilian and also have the chance to ask her questions about her recipes, the inspiration for her book, as well as a more in-depth look as to why she has chosen to do her first live cooking session with North London Hospice.

Lilian is an avid supporter of the Hospice and is a member of the Mill Hill Support Group, a group which has been supporting the hospice since its inception. She has also published Miriam’s Table whose profits are split between North London Hospice and two other worthy charities.

Inspired by her mother, Miriam Abramoff (neé Issacharoff), Miriam’s Table leads us through a beautiful journey across the region of Bukhara, Central Asia and the wonderful, soulful home dishes that have survived through its rich history. Bukharan Jewish cuisine is the traditional cuisine originating in Uzbekistan. All the recipes in the book are attached to the childhood memories of Lilian and her sisters – ones which are filled with friends and family, laughter and drinking, and of course great Bukharian food, which was always lovingly prepared and shared by their mother. These memories are ones which have been created with food as the centrepiece, and now are ones which Lilian also wants to help you create with or for your family or your friends – whether it be over video chat or together in the kitchen when social restrictions are lifted.

For this live session, Lilian has chosen to show her fellow North London Hospice supporters how to make chicken pilav, a big family dish which can serve up to 10 to 12 people. Suggestions for a vegan alternative will be included.

To be a part of this session, all you have to do is email your interest to Ryshel and donate the suggested £5 to our fundraising page.

 On 1st June, you will then receive via email all the details about the live session and also the ingredients used.
