Open Up Hospice Care Awareness Campaign
Throughout March we are joining other Hospices across the UK for a national campaign led by Hospice UK to raise awareness of the desperate need for end-of-life care and support in our communities. The ‘Open Up’ Hospice Care campaign focuses this year on care at home.
Hospice care is so much more than a building where you go to die. Most hospice care happens at home and in the community. It’s our aim that, one day, we will be able to offer expert and compassionate support to every family facing a life-limiting illness in Barnet, Enfield & Haringey.
For many people in the UK today hospice care isn’t an option. People are dying in places they don’t want or need to be, longing for the warmth of their own beds. And many families are left traumatised, with little or no support at the time they need it the most.
Hospice care aims to provide tailored support to those with a terminal or life-limiting condition, no matter who they are or what they’re going through. We listen, understand and treat people with the dignity and respect they deserve.
Can you help?
It’s astonishing that on average more than 325 people a day across the UK who would benefit from hospice care, are not able to get the compassionate and expert support they need. And as the strain on our NHS increases and our population ages, numbers are sure to increase further.
We believe everybody has the right to hospice care and at North London Hospice this is entirely free of charge to users of our services and their families.
But it costs £10 million a year for us to operate and £6 million has to come from our own fundraising so we urgently need your help. Please make a donation so we can:
- Fund nurses to provide expert care for patients in our in patient unit
- Staff our telephone advice and support service
- Provide education and support in End of Life care for other professionals
- Offer vital bereavement support to families
- Work with diverse communities to better understand different needs
- Give complementary therapies to relieve symptoms
- Work in partnership with others such as care homes, GP’s, hospitals and
- Provide information to help patients and families to feel more able to support
