North London Hospice is looking for community volunteers to help support patients with a life limiting illness in their own homes. The role will involve giving a helping hand with a variety of jobs from providing a friendly conversation and companionship, providing respite for patient and carer, or providing a visit to carry out simple daily tasks that can make all the difference. Rod Muir, community volunteer for North London Hospice said: “I have had a number of friends and family members in the care of the North London Hospice. My mother was my father’s carer for a number of years which made me appreciate what a difference two or three hours a week away from caring for someone can make. This time was very precious to my mother just having some time to herself meant so much. That is why I chose to become a community volunteer.” Cheryl-lee Broadfoot, Community Volunteers Co-ordinator said: “Getting involved as a volunteer is a great way to give something back to you community and can make a huge difference to an individual facing end of life. No previous experience is needed and we will provide full training and support to all Community volunteers.” Macmillan Specialist Care at Home is delivered by North London Hospice building on existing local services to help provide care at home for people affected by cancer and other life-limiting conditions. For more information regarding this position please contact: Cheryl-lee Broadfoot, Community Volunteers Co-ordinator on 020 8343 8841 or email: volunteer@northlondonhospice.co.uk.
