A hospice has thanked an “amazing” company which has raised £11,000 for people with life-limiting illnesses. Finchley Central-based property group Crabtree presented the North London Hospice with the fruits of a year of fundraising at the Hospice’s inpatient unit in Woodside Avenue. Throughout the year employees carried out raffles, bake sales and sweepstakes, encouraged clients to give and one staff member even donated her birthday money. A team of 15 workers also walked 62miles from Richmond to Brighton in 25 hours to raise money for the charity. Marketing executive at the Regents Park Way firm Michael Tobin said he had very much enjoyed raising money for the hospice over the course of the year. He said: “As a local company we were very keen to support charities in our area like the North London Hospice. It’s a great cause and has significance to many of our clients. We initially aimed to raise £8,000 so to have £11,000 to give to the hospice is brilliant.” Mr Tobin, who took part in the London to Brighton walk, said it had been a “tough time”. He added: “The night was particularly hard. Everyone had blisters and there were a lot of injuries in the group. Every time I felt like collapsing on the walk I saw in my head a clip of a video we were shown with a terminally ill man singing ‘Now it’s time to say goodbye’ and it reminded me why I was doing the walk and made me keep going. It was worth the pain.” Fundraising manager Judi Guy said it had been “amazing” work with the people at the property company. She said: “It has been a pleasure to spend time with Crabtree staff. It’s been fabulous the way they raised so much money and were determined to have fun while doing it.” She added: “The amount they have raised is hugely significant.” Mr Tobin added that he and the company were already planning their next fundraising challenge. He added: “We don’t know what we want to do yet but it’s our 30th anniversary next year so it’s going to be big.”
