Hospice walkers to move to rock beat
CategoryNorth London Hospice
Rock Chorus is to lead out hundreds of walkers as they set-off on a seven-mile challenge for North London Hospice. The North Finchley community rock and soul choir, one of seven choirs in the Rock Chorus group, will get participants geared up and moving for the charity’s Twilight Walk on Saturday 21 September. ‘Dancing in the Street’, ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ and ‘Poison’ are just some of the classics that will sound out at Finchley Rugby Club, in Summers Lane, as walkers set-off to raise money for the local hospice that cares for terminally ill patients. Choir leader Odette Adams said: “Group harmony singing is extremely uplifting and energising and we are very much looking forward to bringing that wonderful energy to the Twilight Walk event with a good sing of some fantastic, fun popular songs. “North London Hospice is a charity that is very important to the local members of the North Finchley Rock Chorus choir and we look forward to supporting the Hospice on many future events to come”. Member Michelle Bennett said: “My father passed away 18 years ago from a very rare disease called Shy Drager Syndrome, he was only 58 years old. He stayed in the North London Hospice on several occasions so that my mother could have respite and some rest. “They treated him with much care and attention and during the time he spent there, he was happy and made very welcome and comfortable. The work they do for the terminally ill and others, is fantastic and to be highly commended.” Walkers will head towards East Finchley, up East End Road, along Regent’s Park Road before passing North London Hospice, in Woodside Avenue, where there will be an opportunity to light a candle in celebration of someone special before returning to the rugby club. Events fundraiser Gina McLaughlin said: “We are just weeks away from the Twilight Walk and we are extremely excited to have Rock Chorus supporting and encouraging our walkers. “Registration is still open so please come and join us for a wonderful evening and for a good cause.” To sign up for the walk visit the Hospice’s website at www.northlondonhospice.org or call 020 8446 2288.
