Record 1635 Attend Big Fun Walk 2019
A record 1635 people took part in the Big Fun Walk 2019 on Sunday – North London Hospice’s biggest fundraiser of the year.
Supporters walked the 8.5 mile route from East Finchley to Westminster in memory of someone special or just in support of their local Hospice.
The event is expected to have raised in the region of £140,000 for patient care at NLH, which cares for 2500 people with terminal or life-limiting illnesses and their families each year.
Taking in London’s beautiful parks and iconic London landmarks, Big Fun Walk is a great opportunity for people across Barnet, Enfield & Haringey who have experienced or know someone who has experienced the care provided by NLH to come together for a day.
Many people walk as part of big groups and our biggest this year was Big Pete – a group of 59 people walking in memory of Peter Howarth. We also welcomed many supporters walking in memory of Karen Abbott. The Finchley Ladies Group returned once again as did Jah Bob One Love and The Wolman Walkers. Tom’s Gang and the wonderfully named Tom with his Pipe were just a few of our groups who helped us reach the record attendance in 2019.
“It was wonderful to see so many people at this year’s Big Fun Walk – young and old, on two legs and four!” said NLH Director of Fundraising Robin Langrishe. “The support is phenomenal and we thank every single participant for taking part.”
At the Westminster finish line each participant received a medal and were entertained by music from New River Dixielanders and the Finchley Steel Orchestra.
NLH is extremely grateful to many local companies that helped ensure a great event on Sunday. These include Rogers Removals, The Soho Sandwich Co, YesChef, McDonald’s and Coca Cola.
