Single recorded by Hospice patient available to download now
Simon Cooper was an incredible musician. During his life, Simon battled with Cystic Fibrosis and endured two organ transplants. At the age of 33, Simon lost his battle with cancer in July 2016 having spent five weeks being cared for by North London Hospice.
His passion for music lead him to develop the Friday Night Rock service, bringing hundreds of people to synagogues to enjoy his arrangements of traditional songs with a new twist of rock and that special Simon Cooper magic. Last year just before he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Simon created ‘Light A Candle for Chanukah’ – a song based on the lyrics and tune by Debbie Friedman. Arranged, produced and recorded by Simon, this incredibly catchy version has that rock magic Simon was well known for.
With thanks to the Debbie Friedman trust, Simon’s version of ‘Light a Candle for Chanukah’ is now selling on iTunes with all funds being split between Debbie’s trust and North London Hospice.
Becky Woolfe, Simon’s sister said: “You do not have to be Jewish to enjoy this song. Please download in Simon’s memory and have a little piece of Simon’s magic in your music collection forever. We will think of Simon as we light the candles this year and then we will get out our air guitars and rock as he would’ve wanted us to.”
